Why I like to sing
I like to sing because it feels so
good. When singing I am totally engaged in the moment. The brain isn't
thinking about tomorrow or what I ate for lunch or the economy. I am
present and immersed in the song. Performing music engages both sides of the brain; one has to think
and not think. It is quite a challenge and thoroughly satisfying.
Someone once said you can't sing and be
in a bad mood. Its true! Even when providing music for a funeral, The
moment of song allows dear ones to simply be and express their grief. At
a wedding, while singing Ave Maria, for instance, it gives everyone,
especially the bride and groom a chance to relax and take a moment to
experience their ceremony.
Long before I attended music school and was trained in the classical
singing style, I would sing along with musicals. I have gained most of
my wisdom from them! I copied the beautiful voices of Julie Andrews,
Shirley Jones and Marnie Nixon (the voice of Natalie Wood as Maria in
West Side Story). I am a soprano with a rich and sweet sound that has a
lot of "spin" to the tone. My voice is clear and mellow.
